美國白宮網(wǎng)站是最富盛名的Google炸彈例子。2003年10月，一個(gè)叫George Johnston的人成功號召一些人用“miserable failure”(德收)這個(gè)關(guān)鍵詞為錨文字，鏈接向美國白宮網(wǎng)站布什總統(tǒng)的個(gè)人介紹頁(http:/www.whitehouse.gov/president/gwbbio.html)。兩個(gè)月后，在Google搜索“miserable failure”，布什的這個(gè)個(gè)人介紹頁升到第一，搜“failure"”的時(shí)候也是第一。而在這個(gè)頁面中，不論是miserable、failure，或是miserable failure，都沒有出現(xiàn)過。



2006年9月，大白宮有人試圖扭轉(zhuǎn)Google炸彈所造成的影響，把介紹布什的這個(gè)網(wǎng)頁做了S轉(zhuǎn)向到介紹所有總統(tǒng)的一個(gè)通用頁面(htp/www.whitehouse.gow/president)

結(jié)果跳轉(zhuǎn)傳輸了鏈接權(quán)重和錨文字，這個(gè)并不是特別給哪一位總統(tǒng)準(zhǔn)備的頁面，在搜索miserable failure”時(shí)排到了第一。

2007年1月，Google對算法做了修正，防止Google炸彈的發(fā)生。對具體算法 Google并沒做出解釋，也不太可能解釋，因?yàn)檫@涉及Google算法中非常核心的部分。

眾所周知，鏈接是Google排名中最重要的因素之一，哪些鏈接會被賦予權(quán)重，哪些會被降權(quán)甚至忽略，Google當(dāng)然不會告訴我們。

Google做了調(diào)整后，大部分Google炸彈現(xiàn)象消失了。搜索“miserable failure"時(shí)，白宮的頁面已經(jīng)找不到了。
 
一般猜想Google預(yù)防Google炸彈的改變有這么幾項(xiàng):

短時(shí)間內(nèi)大量外部鏈接指向某個(gè)頁面時(shí)，有可能是Google炸彈?這個(gè)頁面并沒有出現(xiàn)鏈接中所用的關(guān)鍵詞銷文字關(guān)鍵詞錨文字是負(fù)面名詞。

2007年4月，在Google搜索“failure”時(shí)，白宮的總統(tǒng)介紹頁面再次排到了第一名不過這次是白宮自找的，因?yàn)樗麄冊诰W(wǎng)頁上放上了“failure”這個(gè)詞

In a time of war, it's irresponsible for the... Democratic leadership in Congress to delay for months on end while our troops in combat are waiting for the funds. The bottom line is this: Congresss failure to fund our troops on the front lines will mean that some of our military families could wait longer for their loved ones to return from the front lines. And others could see their loved ones headed back to the war sooner than they need to. That is unacceptable to me and I believe it is unacceptable to the American people.

這樣，本來與Failure這個(gè)詞不相關(guān)的網(wǎng)頁一下子變得相關(guān)了，預(yù)防ogle炸彈的算法失去了作用。

2009年7月，還有人繼續(xù)惡作劇，在Google搜索“worst failure ever”(史上最大的夫敗)時(shí)，排在第一的是網(wǎng)站設(shè)計(jì)白宮網(wǎng)站現(xiàn)任總統(tǒng)奧巴馬的介紹頁面。不過隨著網(wǎng)民的討論，Google很快采取了措施 。
